Greetings, Cyber Security Enthusiasts!
It’s been a while since we connected, and I must admit, the recent weeks have been nothing short of a cybersecurity rollercoaster. You know those quirky job interview questions like, “Tell me about a time something went wrong at work”? Well, I’ve got the perfect anecdote. Picture this: I’ve just deployed a shiny new web app for a client when they hit me with, “Hey Bodega, can we up our game and switch to a better registrar?” As the go-to knowledge person, I had my suggestions ready.
So, the client and I decide to take the plunge and transfer registrars. Smooth sailing for a few days, and then—boom! The email service they had with the original registrar goes MIA. Hold on, we just secured hosting elsewhere; why did our email bail on us? Aren’t those services separate entities? Turns out, when we migrated the domain and set up hosting, there were some elusive DNS records that needed attention. And guess who missed the memo? Yep, yours truly.
In a whirlwind of excuses, I found myself immersed in documentation, configuring web email for a company raking in five figures a day from their services. Email is their lifeblood, and I was on a mission to resurrect it. Despite the imposter syndrome and countless hours of battling customer support and sleepless nights, I can proudly declare that the crisis has been averted. The day was saved, but let me tell you, the struggle was real.
What’s wild is that after all the turmoil, when you notify the affected end-users, they respond with a simple thumbs up. I suppose it could have been worse, but hey, isn’t problem-solving what we signed up for as tech enthusiasts?
Rant officially over, and I’m back in the cyber game.
Now, someone pass on the memo to the rest of my team – it’s time for them to contribute to these posts too.
Lolz,
Bodega
